FAQ- Senior Quotes
Senior Quotes are free. Senior quotes are a privilege. As such you must follow the written guidelines on the form for your quote to be published. All quotes are subject to review by the school administration. Quotes that do not follow the written guidelines on the form will be rejected and will be excluded from the yearbook

Where do I send my quote?
Please send it via email to castaicyearbook@hartdistrict.org

How do I know if I have a good quote?
Share your quote with friends, family, or teachers ( do not ask the yearbook staff ) to get their opinions. They can provide valuable feedback on whether it's fitting and impactful. When selecting a senior quote for the yearbook, consider these points to determine if it's good, appropriate, and well-liked: Will it positively reflect you and the school? Will it leave leave a positive and uplifting impression on those who read it? Finally, does it meet the guidelines outlined on the Senior Quotes Page?
Can I turn in your quote at the very last minute?
you can actually turn it in early. We would really appreciate it if you did.

When is the last day to turn in late quotes?
for the 2024-2025 school year: October 26, 2024 deadline.

Is it okay if I say something bad in my quote?
This is going to be printed in a book that people hang on to their entire life. Years from now, is that really how you want to be remembered? Also, administration reviews all quotes before they are selected to be included in the yearbook. Quotes with questionable content will be rejected. If you are uncertain, just read the guidelines.

When/How will I know if my quote was approved?
We intend to review every quote after November 11. We will try to notify you if your quote was rejected. It can take us at least two weeks to return quotes rejected by yearbook staff members. All the quotes approved by staff are later read by school administration. Administration can choose to reject a quote without notice at any time.
I forgot what I put as my quote. Could you tell me?
Sorry, we just don’t have time to take this request. We would post every quote online for you to look up but we believe it adds interest to the book to keep all the quotes secret until the book arrives…even from you.
I submitted more than one quote by completing the form more than once. Which quote will you print?
We will print the most recent quote that was submitted by the deadline.
Do I have to use spaces in my quote?
Yourteachershaveworkedhard tomakeyouallbetterwriters. Wetakepridein qualitywritingatCastaic. So, yeah...spaces between words are mandatory.

Can’t we just make shout-outs to our friends? Please, we are best friends.
You can sign each other’s yearbook once they are distributed. However, unfortunately, we can’t accept quotes that reference other people on campus. This has been our policy for a long time. All it takes is for one person to say something that upsets another student for things to go wrong. We are not keeping a record of who approves of being mentioned in a shout out by another particular student and we do not have time to inquire who does or does not want to be mentioned in another student's shout out. After training we have about 90 school days to produce a 300+ page book, we meet for 1 hour a day. When we say we don’t have time, it is not to be rude. It is just that we actually do not have time.

Can I use emoji in my quote?
No. emoji are too informal and would distract from all of your beautiful faces.
The senior quote is a formal quote next to your formal portrait. It is just not the time or place for emoji, sorry.
Can I use a weblink as my quote?
No. A link does not sound offensive but what can potentially be put on a webpage could be.

Can I direct people to a timestamp to a TV show or movie in my quote?
No. We just do not have the time or the access to check what you are trying to reference in such a quote.

Can I say something that offensive and may upset other people on campus? or perhaps something sexually explicit?
No. The yearbook is for everybody. Why would we bother to print something that could offend people?
FAQ - Senior Dedications
Where can I get some help if I can’t figure out what to do?
* Choose your preferred ad size and layout.
* Upload your photos and message to your Google Drive in a folder with the Senior's name
* Share the folder with castaicyearbook@hartdistrict.org
* Make payment via check, credit card or cash to the ASB Student Store.
*Our staff will email you to confirm that we have received access to the shared drive

Can you save me a space?
* Unfortunately, due to restrictions from the plant, we can’t save spots in the yearbook for dedications.
* We can only guarantee you a spot in the yearbook if you complete, pay for, and submit your dedication digitally by 1/17/2025. All dedication requests must be completed by 1/17/2025.
What if I missed the deadline?
* After 1/17/2025, we will sell ads on a first come-first served basis IF any space is still available as we cannot change our page count with the printer.
* We cannot guarantee there will be any dedication space available to purchase after 1/17/2025.
Can I design my own layout?
* Yes, you can! Design your page on your choice or programs and save it as a JPG or PNG. Email us for dimensions and directions to create your dedication and upload your own design as a photo.
* You will still need to select and pay for the size that your image will occupy in the book.
Why do I have to pay before I see the proof?
* When you purchase a senior dedication, you are essentially reserving a space in the yearbook. Our dedicated yearbook staff works diligently to create a unique and personalized dedication based on the materials and instructions provided by you.
* We offer a proof as a courtesy, allowing you to review the ad and request minor changes to ensure it meets your expectations.
* After the Jan 17 deadline, while the yearbook will endeavor to furnish proofs, we cannot assure their provision as our focus shifts to completing the spring pages ahead of the print deadline in the first week of March.
What photos can I send?
* We want your 72 dpi photos to look amazing, so we make them 300 dpi. This means that you images will become smaller.
* You can drop off any PRINTED photos and we will scan it to 300 dpi to keep the size. Especially if it is to be the background.
* Digital images from cameras and photos can be submitted. Older model cell phone photos may not be suitable for printing.
* Any screenshot from a phone will NOT work. Email the photo file from your phone to yourself then upload to us.
* We encourage you to choose images that truly capture your senior's personality and unique moments. While senior portrait images are beautiful, they will already be featured in the yearbook. Using different photos allows you to showcase other aspects of your senior's life and achievements.
* Content may be edited for sentiment space.
* DO NOT submit photo collages or cut-out photos. Photos showing nudity or partial nudity at any age, illegal activities, or any other item deemed inappropriate will not be published in the Chaparral Yearbook for Castaic High School. The administration will make final determination on inappropriateness on a case by case basis.
What should I write?
* Type your message in a word processing software and check for errors. We’ll run exactly what you submit.
* Share a heartfelt PERSONAL message to your senior. This could include words of congratulations, expressions of pride, and encouragement for the future.
* Reflect on special memories, accomplishments, and milestones that stand out during their school years.
* Due to copyright restrictions, we cannot publish song lyrics or poetry. Bible verses are acceptable.
* Content may be edited for space of preferred images.
Can I combine dedications or purchase a page for multiple students?
* One student per dedication– no combining ads (only siblings may be grouped) to ensure that each student receives the individual recognition they deserve. This approach allows us to create a personalized and focused tribute for each senior, celebrating their unique achievements and milestones.
* Our goal is to maintain the quality and clarity of the yearbook, ensuring that every senior's dedication stands out. Grouping multiple students into one ad could dilute the personal nature of the tribute and make it challenging to highlight each individual's accomplishments.
